After thoroughly exploring Kathmandu, we head into the Himalayas on a short flight to the tiny airstrip of Lukla. From here we begin trekking through the homeland of the native Sherpa people, hiking through their villages, visiting their homes and Buddhist monasteries.  As we gain altitude, we take in spectacular views of Mt. Everest and neighboring peaks such as Ama Dablam.  Everest and Lhotse, the world's 1st and 4th tallest mountains, and many other white capped Himalayan peaks are in the vicinity.

This trek begins along the classic route that mountaineers and trekkers hike to get to Everest base camp. Along the way we will stop in Namche Bazaar, the prosperous market town in the heart of Sherpa country.  From here we veer away from the Everest route, heading west and upward toward Gokyo. While absorbing the magnificent Himalayan scenery, we trek along the mighty Dudh Koshi (Milk River) to a high valley below Everest.

At our high point, we hike to the top of Gokyo Ri (17,575ft/5,357m) where we shall be rewarded with dramatic vistas, awesome landscapes, beautiful views of Gokyo's five turquoise glacial lakes, as well as the incredible feeling of being surrounded by the world's highest Himalayan peaks.  Ngozumpa Glacier is a marvel of nature.  One of the largest in the world, this thick, miles-long icy feature lies below, originating in the north at the base of the world's 6th tallest mountain, Cho Oyo.
