ABOUT TIBET
TASHI DELEK, WELCOME TO TIBET
General information about TibetTibet is a land of millions of pilgrims who all embrace it as the world center of holiness. The Tibetan Himalayas have been the source of rich legends and myths. Tibet enlightens its visitors and offers insight into a vast cultural history. On the grasslands, you may hear neighs of bands of wild horses. In some areas you can admire how things were in Tibet as some villages cling to a bygone era. Tibet is an adventure on many levels. It's where dreams are realized for those who seek its beauty, history and its ancient spiritual culture.Guide & AccommodationThroughout your time in Tibet you will be accompanied by a knowledgeable Tibetan guide who will not only act as an interpreter but will also provide valuable insights into the Tibetan way of life. In Lhasa, accommodations will be at a standard hotel situated in the center of town just a few minutes walk from the Jokhang Temple and Barkor Square. Meals will either be at the hotel or at one of the many Chinese teashops along the way, which offer a variety of noodle and vegetable dishes.Transportation in TibetThe roads in Tibet can become quite rough and impassable at times. For this reason we use the best 4WD land cruisers (Toyota 4500). These vehicles are extremely reliable and will make the journey as comfortable as possible. As for the trekking and climbing there will be a truck that will carry luggage and trekking equipment. When crossing the Tibetan Plateau, we will drive for several hours, stopping along the way to photograph places of special interest, and stopping for lunch at midday. We generally arrive at our destination by 3 or 4pm.Health/InsuranceVaccination requirements change frequently, so we suggest you consult with a travel doctor at least two months prior to your trip. We also recommend that each person carry a basic first aid kit. The main health consideration in Tibet is altitude related illness or Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). You may experience some mild symptoms initially, such as a headache, lethargy, nausea and difficulty sleeping, but these should lessen within a few days. A supply of bottled oxygen is carried in the vehicle at all times. We also carry a portable Altitude Chamber (PAC) on all our Tibet treks and Mt. Kailash tours in case of altitude sickness.Hotels in Lhasa are equipped with oxygen. Doctors will also be available on call. If you have ever suffered from altitude sickness, or have a heart or breathing complaint, we recommend you consult your doctor about traveling to Tibet before booking. When flying to Lhasa we recommend you rest for the afternoon when you arrive, which will help you acclimatize. Age is no barrier to enjoy an unforgettable trip to Tibet. If you have any pre-existing medical condition, please consult with your doctor and bring adequate medication for any such condition.Helicopter evacuation insurance is required for this trip. In the case of a serious sickness, you will be driven by a land cruiser to the nearest Nepal/Tibet border and flown to a hospital in Kathmandu. Helicopters are not allowed to fly in Tibet. Since you are entirely liable for all the expenses incurred in evacuation please make sure that this is covered by your insurance.Regions of Tibet and Climate:The route along the Friendship highway, that crosses the Tibetan Plateau and connects Kathmandu to Lhasa, is basically in good condition year round. Although from December to February, the winter road can be blocked at times. August is not a good time to travel since landslides can happen during the rainy season.Early May and early October are the best times to visit the base camp of Mt. Everest on the Tibetan side. The weather is usually clearer at these times of year, and you have a good chance of seeing Mt. Everest's north face. From December to February, this area is very cold and snowy.Reaching the Mt.Kailash region is difficult and the area is somewhat inhospitable. Lots of rain and snow can make the journey worse. However, for those determined tourists, the appropriate time to visit is May to July and September and October.Eastern Tibet may have road closures due to landslides and mud during the rainy season, especially in August. In the winter the road will likely be snow covered and frozen.Northern Tibet has an average altitude of 4,500m. This area offers a very limited time for tourists. Summer (July to August) is the prime time to enjoy the great plains in northern Tibet.Tashi Delek

SIMIKOT-MT KAILASH TREK
Simikot - Guge Kingdom - Mount Kailash TrekTrek through the remote Karnali river valley in western Nepal, before crossing into Tibet. Explore ‘Guge Kingdom’, the repository of ancient Tibetan civilization and Mount Kailash, the holiest pilgrimage site in Tibet. This trek begins from Simikot and weaves across some of the least frequented trekking trails in western Nepal. Following the Karnali river, we walk through pine scented forests and traditional Thakuri & Tibetan Buddhist villages, with the beautiful Saipal and Nalakankad mountain range in the background. We trek past misty mountain views, with lush green vegetation, with wildflowers, Himalayan herbs and flowering buckwheat, mustard dotting the landscape. This trail is ideal for travelers who dislike crowds, enjoy solitary walks and want more interactions with local inhabitants. After crossing into Tibet, you drive across the wide open spaces of the Tibetan Plateau to ‘Guge Kingdom’ (Tholing & Tsaparang), the archeologically significant remains of Tibet's ancient civilization. Marveling at the barren yet spectacular landscape of Tibet you continue driving to the serene and most sacred Lake Manasarovar, before completing a kora (loop trek) around Mt Kailash. From there, you re-cross the vast arid plains before heading south to the Nepalese border and returning to Kathmandu. The magnificent sceneries blending with the sights of ancient culture make this an amazing trip that remains sketched in your memories for a lifetime. Throughout the journey from the Tibetan Plateau to Kathmandu you enjoy comfortable overnight accommodation, excellent food and convenient camping facilities.
